![]() For those of you who have spent the last year or so living under a rock, I have unfortunate news for you: We are in the midst of a recession. Some say the economic climate is beginning to regain a degree of stability; others insist that the worst is yet to come, but whatever the case may be, ruminating in the squalor of one’s own self-pity is unlikely to improve the situation. Instead of resigning yourself to living in a world of sweatpants and sitting on your couch, in a room lit only by the glow of your television, try looking at this recession as a blessing in disguise. As American as apple pie, the notion that money and happiness are one and the same has not served us particularly well and it won’t help us now, so it’s time to toss it. Once you’ve moved that stumbling block out of the way, you can begin to appreciate your life in an entirely new way, taking pleasure in the little things you may have overlooked in the past. ![]() Now is also the perfect time to redecorate. The brainchild of Nicole Langelier and Elena Reich, Quickfixdesign.com is a shining example of the sort of innovation and brilliance that can turn this recession into an opportunity for a cultural renaissance. The New York based designer and founder of Quick Fix Design, Nicole Langelier and her Milan-based partner, Elena Reich, explain the concept behind Quick Fix Design in their motto: “Fix it- Renew it-Reinvent it-Make it Yours!” A keen eye and a terrific sense of style allow the Quick Fix Design team to redecorate the houses and offices of their clients, using materials and items the client already owns to do so. Quick Fix Design brings new life into the lives of their clients, by revitalizing spaces and objects, instead of replacing them. ![]() The Quickfixdesign.com website offers free design tips that are as simple as they are invaluable. Setting a fantastic example for the rest of us, while at the same time leading the way to a world where we can all begin to care a little bit less about things and a little more about life, Quickfixdesign.com is a website not to be missed. In fact, I’m going to follow some of the Quickfixdesign.com advice right now. I’m finally letting go of some of the clothing I never wear and I’m taking it straight to Goodwill. After that, I’m off to find some fresh-cut flowers, because I like the idea of bringing a little extra life into my home. Flowers might not be free, but they’re certainly cheaper than a new pair of Louboutins and I’ve yet to find a shoe that is capable of breathing life into my home, so much as it sucks the life right out of my wallet. A recession might not seem like the obvious source for inspiration, but Quickfixdesign.com has made me a believer. -- Lucy Swift Weber For more information visit: http://www.quickfixdesign.com/ |
