 I once had the pleasure of sitting in on a rehersal session of Snoop Dogg's before he left on tour. Rather than expressly using a DJ there was an entire band. I was amazed at how accurate all the musicians were in recreating all of his hits. But I was even more intrigued by the riffs and improvisational grooves that they spoke to eachother with between takes. If like me, you have ever wondered what an extremely talented session player would sound like if left to his own devices?

 One of the DJs that I have always wanted to see play live is King Britt. Why? Because you never know what to expect from his sets. Take a look at his discography and you will understand that every album is a unique gem. The Philadelphia native is unquestionably a maestro of the turntables but his production ability goes way further, it is a truly a gift from the Divine. |

 When I arrived in Paris, I had no schedule to keep, save for a late-morning Wednesday appointment with the jewelry designer, Lydia Courteille. I was staying in the Parisian suburb of Saint Cloud and my friend, whom I was visiting, accompanied me to Ms. Courteille’s dark, velvety headquarters on Rue St. Honoré. Outside the shop, there was a large display window filled with Ms. Courteille’s creations, accompanied with a sign, in English, that said, Please do not photograph.

 Canvases with different designs were lined up along the left wall à la coloring book style for everyone to make their mark with red and black sharpies. At least I hope the canvases were for all to make their mark, if not then I defaced some graff artists piece and that would explain the two rockabilly guys laughing at my handstyle - or lack thereof. I was really on my smooth operating mode that evening (it keeps me ahead in the fashion game). Case in point. I got a sneak peek at the newest line of handbags when my search for beer took me to the alley via the backroom.

 Here in ever sunny California one accessory that you always have to have with you it is a good pair of sunglasses. From the volleyball players of Manhattan and Redondo Beach to the Hollywood Stars, everybody wears his favourite pair of shades. I just discovered my next pair: these entirely handcrafted Shwood Sunglasses are an experiment with nature. Thanks to meticulous attention and state-of-the-art technology the Portland based company is able to provide amazing eyewear. The one that I love the most are the Canby model in Zebrawood; there is also a vast choice of Carl Zeiss lenses: Grey, Brown, Mirrored, Polarized, which are all imported from Italy.

 Opening up my green velvet diary I realized some things about myself. First, I am not good at keeping my diary updated (my last entry is dated 3-25-2006) and second, I edit out details I am embarassed about later - such as past crushes and inebriated nights in my mid-twenties. Regardless I love the idea of looking back upon my memoirs with my grandchildren one day. |
